Health and Safety competences in explosive atmosphere

Context

Safety in explosive environments is critical, and having the right competencies ensures the well-being of workers and prevents accidents. Our course provides attendees with essential knowledge and practical skills for safe working in potentially explosive environments. This competency validation is relevant and essential to those involved in the design, selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of gas and vapour equipment.

The aitm of this training program is to provide electrical and instrument technicians with the necessary competence to work in potentially explosive environments. The program is divided into: Theoretical Section and Practical Exercises.

Content

• Review of explosion principles, gas properties and hazards (EXF concepts)
• Standards, certification, and marking per IEC 60079-series of standards
• Protection Concepts and installation techniques for Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex i, Ex o, Ex m, Ex q, and Ex p equipment
• Combined (Hybrid) types of protection
• Wiring systems, enclosure entries, and cable gland selection & installation to IEC 60079-14
• Inspection and maintenance of equipment to IEC 60079-14 and 60079-17 standards
• Sources of ignition
• Hands-on assessment of installation and inspection -Ex d, Ex e

Pre-requisites

• Ability to make off steel wire armoured cable glands
• Ability to carry out electrical testing for Continuity, Insulation Resistance and Polarity.
• Working background as electrician, electronic technician or instrument technician.
• General knowledge of Ex principles.

Duration

5 Days designed to cover Theoretical Section and Practical Exercises

The duration of this course may vary depending on the in-depth study desired. The choice depends on the participants’ needs and current vs. intended level of expertise. Both options clearly have value, but the longer one allows the topic to be explored in more detail, with a more practical approach as well.

1. 2 days: this option is ideal for a general overview of the topic. It covers the key points and provides an overview. It is suitable for those who need a basic knowledge and have limited time available.
2. 5 days: this option offers more in-depth study. In addition to the basic concepts, it addresses specific details and, more than that, practical cases and best practices. It is recommended for those who want a more complete and in-depth understanding of the topic.
